The road-going BRZ is a lightweight coupe with modest power and famously good balance. The Super GT car that carries its silhouette is something else entirely: a purpose-built GT300 racer running a turbocharged boxer engine well beyond 400 PS, wrapped in aerodynamics that share almost nothing with the showroom car except the outline. This display takes the race car apart and labels what is underneath.

What's in the frame

The car broken into labelled components: body from above, cabin, wheels, the boxer engine, and the racing specifications that separate a GT300 entry from anything road-legal. Each element is mounted on its own layer so the frame has physical depth.

How it's built

Each piece is assembled by hand, not printed. The components sit on a solid wood backboard inside an aluminium alloy frame, behind an acrylic glazing panel, with the parts physically layered so the display throws real shadows and changes as you move past it. Story behind

Subaru's Other Side

Most people associate Subaru with rally stages and WRX mud flaps. The BRZ Super GT program told a different story. R&D Sport campaigned the BRZ in Japan's Super GT series, the country's premier touring car championship and one of the most competitive production-based racing series in the world. The road-going BRZ runs a naturally aspirated flat-four. The Super GT version got the EJ20, a turbocharged 2.0L boxer that Subaru had spent decades perfecting in WRC competition, retuned for circuit racing and pushing 450 PS through a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The bodywork was widened, the suspension was purpose-built, and the interior was stripped to a roll cage, a racing seat, and the bare minimum of instrumentation. What made this car interesting wasn't just the speed. It was the fact that Subaru was campaigning a lightweight rear-drive coupe platform in a series dominated by GT-R's, NSX's, and Supras. The BRZ R&D Sport was always the underdog. It raced anyway, and it gave Super GT some of its best battles in the process.
